Stem Cell Enriched Cord Blood Repository

Reliance Life Sciences has established South Asia's first, most advanced and completely automated stem cell enriched umbilical cord blood repository. The repository holds over 3500 units. This is the first cord blood repository in the world to be accorded a licence by an official regulatory authority, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Government of India.

The repository runs two programs for collection of cord blood - Relicord-S and Relicord-A - under its cord blood repository program. Relicord-S is a sibling donor program and Relicord-A is meant for patients requiring transplants with grafts from the repository.

Cord blood is collected from donors and is tested thoroughly for HIV, HBV, HCV and CMV. The blood is also typed for Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) Class 1 and 2 antigens using the most contemporary molecular methods and then processed for enriching stem cells. The repository cryo-preserves stem cell enriched cord blood at minus 196 deg Celsius in a computer controlled robotics-based, bio-archive system.
